When using a KEC instance, you must pay attention to the usage notes for different operating systems. Otherwise, configuration changes may cause the KEC instance to run abnormally.

Usage notes for Windows operating systems

Note
shutdownmon.exe process Do not stop the shutdownmon.exe process that comes with Windows systems. Otherwise, it may take longer to restart the KEC instance.
Administrator account Do not rename, delete, or disable the administrator account in Windows. Otherwise, your use of KEC instances may be affected.
Virtual memory If a basic EBS disk is used, virtual memory is not recommended. If you use an EHDD or SSD EBS disk, you can use virtual memory according to the situation.
Management account Proceed with caution when you use management accounts such as administrator account to work on capacity expansion, spanned volumes, registry, and system updates. Otherwise, data may be damaged due to incorrect operations.

Usage notes for Linux operating systems

Note
/etc/issue file Do not modify the default content of the /etc/issue file. Otherwise, the system release version of custom images created from instances cannot be correctly identified, and instances created using the images cannot be started normally.
Root directory Proceed with caution when you change the permissions of the directories under the partition where the root directory is located, especially those of /etc, /sbin, /bin, /boot, /dev, /usr, and /lib. If the permissions are changed improperly, the system encounters an exception.
root account Do not rename, delete, or disable the root account.
Kernel Do not compile or perform any other operation on the kernel of your Linux system.
swap partition If a basic EBS disk is used, swap partitions are not recommended. If you use an EHDD or SSD EBS disk, you can use swap partitions according to the situation.
NetworkManager service Do not start the NetworkManager service, which will conflict with the internal network services of the system and result in network exception.
Management account Proceed with caution when you use management accounts such as root to work on fio, mkfs, fsck, or capacity expansion. Otherwise, data may be damaged due to incorrect operations.
