Manage external clusters

You can import third-party Kubernetes clusters and manage their resources in the KCE console.

Usage notes

• The Kubernetes cluster to be imported must support Internet access.
• The attributes of the Kubernetes cluster are still managed in the cluster. For example, you need to add or delete nodes, upgrade the Kubernetes version, or modify component parameters in the cluster.

Import a cluster

Create an external cluster

1. Log in to the KCE console.
2. Click Create External Cluster. The Create External Cluster page appears.
3. Configure basic information.
   • Cluster Name: Enter a custom name of the cluster. The name must be 2 to 64 characters in length and can contain letters, digits, and the following special characters: - , . ! $ ^ * ( ) % # & + / : ; < = > [ ] _ ` { | } ~.
   • Description: Enter the description of the cluster. The description can be up to 256 characters in length.
   • Data Center: Select the region. Only the CN North 1(Beijing) region is supported.
4. After basic information is configured, click Create. The page for importing a cluster appears.

Import a cluster

1. Run the corresponding command in the target cluster to import and execute the configuration file. After resources are created in the target cluster, the target cluster is imported.

2. Go back to the Cluster page in the KCE console. The target cluster appears and its status is Imported.

If the import failed, the target cluster is in the Pending state. You can click the cluster name to go to the cluster management page. Click Obtain the configuration of importing clusters and then import and execute the configuration file in the cluster again.

View the cluster status and basic information

After a cluster is imported to the KCE console, you can manage it together with KCE clusters. You can view the status of the cluster and its basic information, and manage Kubernetes native resources. For more information about the operations, see related documents.

Note: A third-party cluster cannot directly access underlying resources of Kingsoft Cloud, such as SLB instances and EBS volumes. To allow the cluster to access these resources, you must install related components.

Delete an imported cluster

On the Cluster page, find the imported cluster and choose More > Delete Cluster in the Operation column. Resources that are created based on the import configuration file are deleted. Other resources in the cluster are not affected.
