Use a snapshot to create an EBS volume

Last updated:2021-09-22 20:37:36

A Kingsoft Cloud Elastic Block Storage (EBS) volume created from a snapshot contains all data at the point in time when the snapshot is created. You can use a snapshot to create an EBS volume. The volume capacity must be larger than or equal to the snapshot size.

Note
1. The source disk from which the snapshot is created can be a local disk or an EBS volume.
2. You can use the snapshot of a local system or data disk to create an EBS volume that can be used as a data disk.
3. You can also use the snapshot of an EBS volume that serves as a system or data disk to create an EBS volume that can be used as a data disk.

  • If you use a snapshot to create an EBS volume whose capacity is equal to the snapshot size, you do not need to partition or format the EBS volume, or create a file system. After you attach the EBS volume to a Kingsoft Cloud Elastic Compute (KEC) instance, the data copied from the snapshot to the EBS volume can be properly read and written on the KEC instance.
  • If you use a snapshot to create an EBS volume whose capacity is larger than the snapshot size, the system only expands the disk capacity of the block device and does not resize the partitions or file systems. After the created EBS volume is attached to a KEC instance, you can only use the file system and data of the snapshot. To use the expanded capacity, you must manually resize partitions. For more information, see Overview.

Use the snapshot of a local disk to create an EBS volume that can be used as a data disk

Procedure

  1. Log in to the EBS console.

  2. In the left navigation pane, choose Snapshot > Snapshot List.

  3. On the Local Disk tab, find the snapshot that you want to use to create an EBS volume and choose More > Create EBS in the Operation column.image.png

  4. On the page that appears, specify the required information for the EBS volume to be created, such as the region, availability zone, billing mode, and capacity. Then, click Buy now. You can move the pointer over the icon next to Create a Cloud hard disk from a snapshot to view the details of the snapshot.image.png

  5. Click Submit Order.

Note

  • By default, the capacity of an EBS volume created by using a snapshot is equal to the size of the snapshot. You can expand the capacity of the EBS volume as needed.
  • You can create up to 10 EBS volumes at a time.
