How do I measure the performance of an EBS volume?

You can measure the performance of an EBS volume based on the following metrics: Input/Output operations per second (IOPS): the number of read or write operations that can be performed per second. Throughput: the amount of data read or written per second. Unit: Mbit/s. Latency: the period from the time point when an I/O request is sent to the time point when the I/O request is received and confirmed. Unit: s, ms, or μs.

How do I test the performance of an EBS volume?

We recommend that you use fio for stress testing and verification of an EBS volume. For more information, see Test the performance of an EBS volume.
