Reinstall the system

Last updated:2021-03-19 14:48:25

Overview

You can reinstall the operating system for your Kingsoft Cloud GPU Elastic Compute (GEC) instances when a system fault occurs or you want to change the operating system type or version. Note: You can reinstall the operating system only for GEC instances in the Stopped state.

Supported operating systems

In the console, you can change the operating system of your GEC instances in all regions and all availability zones to any version of Windows or Linux operating systems. In short, the type or version of operating system that you can install is not limited. You receive a free quota of 50 GB storage for both Linux and Windows operating systems.

Pricing

You are not charged for reinstalling the operating system if the size of the system disk remains unchanged.

If the size of the system disk is increased as the operating system gets reinstalled, the additional space is charged. For more information about the pricing, see Pricing.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the KEC console.
  2. In the instance list, find the instance for which you want to reinstall the operating system, and choose More > Reinstall System.

  3. In the Reinstall System dialog box, set relevant parameters. The following parameters may require your additional attention:

    • Image Type: You can choose from Standard Image, Custom Image, Shared Image, and Image from the Marketplace. Images from the Marketplace need to be purchased. If you have any questions about the image you purchased, contact the image vendor.
    • System Disk: You can adjust the size of the system disk. The new size cannot be smaller than the original size.
    • Login Mode: You can choose from Password, Key, and Retain Image Settings. A standard image does not support the Retain Image Settings login option.
    • Administrator Password/Confirm Password: If you select Password as the login mode, you must set a system login password. The password must be 8 to 32 characters in length and must contain uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and digits. It can contain the following special characters: ! " $ % ( ) * + - / ; : < = > ? @ [ ] ^ _ ` { | } ~
    • SSH Key: If you select Key as the login mode, you must select a login SSH key from the list or click Create SSH Key to create a new key pair. For more information about SSH keys, see Manage SSH keys.
  4. Click OK.
