Grant permissions to an IAM role

This topic describes how to grant permissions to an IAM role.

Limits

The policy of a service-linked role is defined by the service. You cannot grant permissions to the role.

Method 1: Grant permissions to a role on the Roles page

1. Log in to the IAM console.
2. In the left navigation pane, click Roles.
3. On the Roles page, find the target role and click Add Permissions in the Actions column.
4. In the Add Permissions panel, select one or more policies.
5. Click OK.

Method 2: Grant permissions to a role on the Grants page

1. Log in to the IAM console.
2. In the left navigation pane, choose Permissions > Grants. The Grants page appears.
3. Click Grant Permission.
4. In the Add Permissions panel, select the target role and one or more policies.
5. Click OK.

Method 3: Grant permissions to a role on the Policies page

1. Log in to the IAM console.
2. In the left navigation pane, choose Permissions > Policies. The Policies page appears.
3. Find the target policy and click Associated object in the Actions column.
4. In the Associated object panel, select the target role.
5. Click OK.
