Auto Scaling checks the validity of launch configurations before scaling activities are executed, and notifies you of invalid launch configurations. This allows you to avoid scaling failures caused by invalid launch configurations. A launch configuration becomes invalid when it is configured mistakenly.
To check the validity of a launch configuration, Auto Scaling checks whether the custom image specified in the launch configuration has been deleted. If the custom image has been deleted, Auto Scaling marks the launch configuration as invalid.
When a launch configuration becomes invalid, KEC instances cannot be created based on the launch configuration during scale-out. The cause of the scale-out failure is recorded in scaling activity logs.
