Back up and restore primary/secondary instances

Last updated:2021-01-13 15:42:29

Backup and restoration

The backup and restoration feature of KCS primary/secondary instances allows you to quickly restore data and ensures the reliability of KCS as a persistent data store.

KCS supports two backup methods: manual backup and automatic backup. When you restore an instance, backup data overwrites current data. You can restore an instance from a backup file or by importing a file from KS3.

Limits and usage notes

  1. Data is backed up on the secondary node and stored in an RDB file. The backup process does not affect database performance. After the backup starts, the instance enters the Backing Up state. The time that is required to back up an instance depends on the data volume of the instance.
  2. KCS supports two backup methods: manual backup and automatic backup. By default, automatic backup is not enabled. All backup files are stored in KS3 and do not occupy local storage space. Backup files are stored for seven days for free. If you want to keep a backup file for a longer period, you can download the backup file to your local device or upload the backup file to your own KS3 bucket.
  3. After you enable automatic backup, a full backup runs every day. Automatic backup files are deleted automatically by the system.

Procedure

  1. Find the instance that you want to back up or restore and click Manage in the Actions column. On the instance details page that appears, click Backup Restoration in the left navigation pane.
  2. On the Backup Restoration page, manually back up the instance, configure automatic backup, delete backup files, restore data, download backup files, or export backup files to your KS3 bucket.

Create a backup file

KCS supports two backup methods: manual backup and automatic backup.

  1. By default, automatic backup is not enabled. You can enable automatic backup on the Backup Restoration page. To enable automatic backup, you must select a calendar hour, such as 00:00 to 01:00, as the backup window. You can disable automatic backup at any time.
  2. You can manually back up your KCS instance at any time in the KCS console. You can retain at most three manual backup files. When three manual backup files exist, you must delete an existing backup file before you create another backup file.
  3. The backup process may take a while. We recommend that you back up your instance in off-peak hours so as not to affect your business or system performance.

Restore a KCS instance

KCS supports two instance restoration methods: automatic restoration and restoration from KS3.

  1. Automatic restoration You can click Restore to restore an instance to a previous version. When you restore an instance, backup data overwrites current data. Proceed with caution. Data cannot be written to an instance that is being restored.

  2. Restoration from KS3 Before you restore a KCS instance from KS3, make sure that you have activated KS3 and have the relevant permissions. The selected RDB file is imported and directly overwrites the instance. Make sure that the file is correct and you have the permission to read the file.

Select the KS3 bucket from the drop-down list.

You can use fuzzy search to find the file in the bucket.

Delete a backup file

  1. You can delete one or more manual backup files based on your needs.
  2. An automatic backup file is retained for seven days and then automatically deleted by the system.

Download a backup file

You can download both manual and automatic backup files. Select a backup file and click Download to download the backup file to your local device.

Export a backup file to KS3

Before you export a backup file to KS3, make sure that you have activated KS3 and have the relevant permissions. The duration of the export is determined by file size and the bandwidth allocated by KS3. After the export is completed, you can view the backup file at the endpoint where it is exported to.

Select the KS3 bucket from the drop-down list.

You can specify a custom file name that is used as the display name of the backup file in KS3. The file name must follow the naming rules.
