An image is a template for running environments in EPC instances. It contains an operating system, pre-installed software, and configurations. EPC supports CentOS, Ubuntu, and Windows images. EPC images and KEC images are independent of each other, and are not interchangeable.
An EPC instance is automatically allocated a private IP address from the VPC subnet to which the instance belongs. You can change the subnet of an EPC instance in the VPC console. If you change the private IP address of an EPC instance in its operating system, the EPC instance fails to communicate with other instances over the internal network. The communication inside a region by using private IP addresses is free of charge. EPC instances use private IP addresses to communicate with each other over the internal network. EPC instances can also use private IP addresses to communicate with other instances over the internal network, such as KEC instances.
An EPC instance that has a public IP address can be accessed over the Internet. In Kingsoft Cloud, a public IP address is an elastic IP address (EIP) that can be migrated between instances. For example, when an EPC instance is faulty, you can migrate the EIP of the EPC instance to another EPC instance. You can purchase an EIP and the public bandwidth quota, and attach the EIP to an EPC instance in the EIP console. Then, the EPC instance can provide public access.
